Athanas (Anthony) is born in Korch, Albania.

Anthony Athanas emigrates to the U.S. with his parents in 1915, living first in New Bedford. He drops out of school at 13 to work in his family’s restaurants, opens the first of his own in Lynn in 1957, and comes to Boston in 1963 to open Anthony’s Pier 4 Restaurant at 140 Northern Avenue. The restaurant becomes one of the most successful in the country. Its patrons include leading figures in the worlds of Boston politics, business, law, and sports, visiting celebrities, and parents visiting their college-student children. Athanas enters into a partnership to develop the Pier 4 site in 1982.* He dies in Swampscott on May 20, 2005.
